A Poem

"THE WORLD IS TOO MUCH WITH US; LATE AND SOON"
The world is too much with us; late and soon,
Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers:
Little we see in Nature that is ours;
We have given our hearts away, a sordid boon!
The Sea that bares her bosom to the moon;
The winds that will be howling at all hours,
And are up-gathered now like sleeping flowers;
For this, for everything, we are out of tune;
It moves us not.--Great God! I'd rather be
A Pagan suckled in a creed outworn;
So might I, standing on this pleasant lea,
Have glimpses that would make me less forlorn;
Have sight of Proteus rising from the sea;
Or hear old Triton blow his wreathed horn.
--William Wordsworth 1806.

An English Free-Write

Today in Doctrines and Covenants, we talked about the Law of Consecration. The discussion was packed with questions and insights. One question arose which we conversed about for forty of the fifty minute class period. The question went something like this: How does one decide how much material goods he can own? And is a person selfish if he owns a boat because he could have used the money to help build the kingdom in other ways? This led to great controversy, and it got me started thinking. It is my belief that we spend too much of our time on materialistic goods and less on building relationships. We treat each other too much like objects and not as children of a God in heaven. We use each other to get gain, and then dispose of the memories. It’s like a child who gets a new toy on Christmas Day. At first he gets excited over the newness of it all. He values its use and makes sure not to get it dirty. Day after day the toy gets used less and less. The child gets bored with it, and eventually he uses the toy in ways it was not intended for; he throws it around as though it were trash. Finally, the toy’s value grows insignificant to the child. He no longer values it and soon throws it away. Do our relationships follow in this same path? I think far too often they do.
We value the worth of a machine more than we do a human being. Steven R. Covey said that we put our equipment in the assets column of our businesses, and people in the expenses. More and more people are being put to work in factories doing simple mundane jobs—jobs that require little to no thinking. But imagine if we reversed these roles. What if we set people in the assets column, and equipment in the expenses? A human mind is capable of accomplishing incomprehensible tasks—tasks in which machines can never imitate. In fact, there is so much to learn about the brain, that modern day sciences can’t keep up with it. So why do we allow material goods to run our world instead of people? Let’s take people out of the factories and test them intellectually. Allow them to think, and imagine, and then create. How powerful could we as a human race become?
Now let’s go back to the initial questions. How does one decide how much material goods he can own? And is a person selfish if he owns a boat because he could have used the money to help build the kingdom in other ways? Well, in a way it doesn’t matter. As children of God, we get to govern ourselves. So use your incredible brain and decide what you think is best for you. Nevertheless, keep in mind, relationships and people are the most important possessions this world has to offer.

To Venita, myself, and anyone else

I want you to tell me this, "I am not going to grad school because I know Heavenly Father doesn't want me to go." I don't want you to say you're not going just because things aren't working out. Sometimes it's good to feel like a failure so you can try harder. Take me for example. I had to learn that I'm failing 2 of my 6 classes before I got my head on straight this semester. Now I am determined to work harder to get my assignments done on time. Failure can bring determination. If you want something and it feels right go for it. Don't tell me you're going to stop reaching for your goal because things haven't worked out at the time you wanted them to. I understand; however, that if you truly don't have a good feeling about it then don't do it. Sometime good things can bring fear though. You just need to distinguish what kind of fear or confusion you're feeling. In fact, the first time Joseph Smith saw Moroni, he was scared. But he quickly got over that fear. Sometime in our inadequacy to identify good from bad, we get scared. Don't be scared. Do what YOU feel is right. You're the person who knows you best and knows what is best for you. Believe.

My "Weeping" Leg

I slide in the dirt trying to score a goal yesterday. I didn't score; however, it was lucky the goalie scored for me on accident. Haha. The nurses today told me my knee was "weeping" that's why if you take a close look you can see yellow and clear puss oozing out. It looked worse yesterday...believe me.

Inspired

Brother Grant inspires me. I want to be just like him. He's my hero. He motivates me to conquer all my fears. To act and not be acted upon. To dig deeper and stop wasting valuable time simply on entertainment. Today he inspired me to take chances on relationships. To love more because I can and what else is there to life. Life is based on experiences. The people. The places. Take advantage of what you've been given. Ask the handsomest guy to go on a walk. Break down personal walls within yourself and go outside your norm. Why not? What have you got to lose? Life is for learning. Learn, understand, and then apply the knowledge. If you don't apply then learning was pointless. Do your best and if you fail you fail. But think of the great lessons you've learned from the experience in failing. A lifetime of greatness awaits...I already started conquering my fears. I went to my crush's house tonight, but he wasn't there. He doesn't even know me, but he will soon. Live life. Take chances. Go out on a limb. Then smile.

Smiling

I can't stop smiling, all day...I don't even know why. It's kind of been a lame, but smiling kind of day. I did homework all day, and I feel like I've been crying all day because I have that weird stuffy headache and stuffy nose. But the overall feeling is amazing. I love this day. The sunshine. The people. The laughter. The random memories flowing through my head. The learning. Exercising with the roomies. Eating a strange concoction of vegetables from Bernice's garden. Sweating like a pig. Rexburg Unplugged craze. Chocolate chips festival. And I can't stop smiling cuz the days not over. I'm going to play tag in the caves and my sister's going to come with me. It's days like this that build your testimony because you know Heavenly Father must love you to allow you to be a part of this day.

Cereal, Cereal, Cereal...Perfect

Early Wednesday morning I woke up with the intent of being the first person to get to Albertson's to buy 10 boxes of cereal for 10 dollars. I ended up buying 20 because I figured I'd give 15 away. I've only given 6 boxes away and I can't part with the rest...haha. Perfect I love cereal now. I've eaten a different kind every day so far. Uhh in search for a picture I ran into the coolest cafe ever. All they sell is cereal in a cafe. It's amazingly insane. It makes me laugh. Why?? www.cereality.com

Life should resemble a soccer game

No fear--bold anticipation.
No pain--pure focus.
Mistakes planting desire.
Instinctive steps.
Giving my best.
Realizing my best today is better than yesterday's.
Living, breathing, working.
Honesty, loyalty, love.
Less talking, more doing.
An individual, a team.
Leave your baggage at the gate
And your shoes on the field
Cuz life doesn't get any better than this.

To quit or not to quit, that is the question????

Lucky

Yesterday, while eating trail mix, I didn't find a single raisin in my whole cup. I thought I was so lucky because I hate raisins. Then I remembered the person sitting next to me is allergic to chocolate. I reminded him of this and he gave me all his chocolate chips, and that's when I knew it was a good day.

Don't be afraid

I just watched half of the scariest movie ever because I was too scared to finish it, and I am now wide awake, listening to church music, praying for peace, and reminiscing the past. I wish I was a better person, but all I can do is press forward one step at a time. I'm a slow learner, yet I still have the ability to change myself. Amazing. Sometimes I don't think I deserve to know or be close to people because I cause them a lot of pain. I want to be perfect for them because they deserve someone great and naturally I'm not so I get mad and eventually I give up...dumb huh. Kami, don't be afraid to fail. Not only with people but with the experiences in life. Failure can lead to determination, satisfaction, and a whole lot of knowledge.

"Somebody To Do For"

--Shortly after the funeral held for the first wife of President Harold B. Lee, someone expressed sympathy to his daughter Helen for the passing of her mother and said: "She took such good care of your father. I'm sure he must be lonely and must miss all the things she did for him."
--Helen responded with an insight of remarkable wisdom. " You do not understand," she said. It is not so much that he misses all of the things that Mother did for him. He misses her most because he needs somebody to do for."
--We all need somebody to do for. When that is unfulfilled as a need, we become lonely.
-Boyd K. Packer

Venita we see the same sun!!!

Pictured above is our Sun in three colors of ultraviolet light. Since only active regions emit significant amounts of energetic ultraviolet light, most of the Sun appears dark. The colorful portions glow spectacularly, pinpointing the Sun's hottest and most violent regions.

My Conscience

You know how most people feel the Holy Ghost in their heart, well tonight I have a confession. Sometimes because I'm a some what heartless fool, I feel him in my bladder. Yes, my bladder. Almost every time I convince myself to do a mischievous, rash idea and am at the brink of accomplishing such plans, I suddenly get an overwhelming feeling that I need to go pee (yeah, and I can barely hold it). So then my plan gets thwarted until I can locate a bathroom, and by that time I've realized the stupidity of the prior plan and I've already conceived a new plan and completely forgotten about my desire to go pee. It's ridiculous. I must not listen to my heart very well, but I sure listen to my bladder.
